Test Code LAB462 Blood Culture

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube:
1 Aerobic/Pediatric Bottle and 1 Anaerobic Bottle or 1 Pediatric Bottle for Pediatric Patients/Difficult Draws.
Collect 8-10 mL for the Aerobic/Anaerobic Bottles.
Collect 1-3 mL Blood for the Pediatric Bottle.
Send to Lab ASAP
Do Not Refrigerate

Additional Instructions

Contact lab for proper collection bottles and protocol.
Document collection site and volume of blood placed in each bottle

Additional Information

The first positive bottle will reflex a blood culture identification panel. Subsequent positives will only reflex to blood culture identification if there is a new organism present, it is a new hospital admission, or it has been 14 days since the previous identification panel has be ran.
