Specimen Requirements
Container/Tube:Required: Stool in a Sterile Container or Transport Media.
Specimen Volume: Collect 1mL in a Sterile Container, or Fill to Line in Transport Media.
Send to Lab ASAP
Do Not Refrigerate
Additional Instructions
Transport immediately at room temp if not in preservative.
Includes Shiga toxin A/B testing.
Collection of more than 2 specimens per patient generally does not result in increased diagnostic sensitivity.
Consider testing for C.diff for all patients over 6 mo. of age with clinically significant diarrhea and a history of antibiotic exposure.
